Bali Hai Conservation Efforts

Environmental Initiatives

Our position at the forefront of marine tourism in Indonesia means Bali Hai can lead the way in local social and environmental initiatives. We understand that it is our privilege and not our right to operate in the amazing marine environment that we do.  As a result we conduct our own reef surveys since 20 years, reef clean ups and have sponsored numerous charity auctions. Our Beach Club property and Hai Tide Huts are using a sophisticated wastewater treatment plant since the opening of the property. To preserve the limited supply of freshwater on Lembongan Island for the locals, Bali Hai has installed a desalinator for all its fresh water needs. It is our ambition to preserve this environment not only for future visitors but for the local people who live and work here every day.

Bali Hai Turtle Conservation

Bali Hai has recently implemented an adopt a turtle program. The highly successful program centers around raising baby Olive Ridley turtles in a Western Bali based hatchery. The turtle species is listed on the international CITES group of endangered animals so it’s hoped that this project is able to assist in the future survival of this magnificent and important animal. Turtle eggs from known nesting sites are collected regularly by fisherman and sent to a hatchery where they are looked after and monitored. Fisherman receive a much needed secondary income for the eggs and the eggs are safely protected from predators. Contact us to get more information about this exciting new initiative.

Reef Check

Bali Hai is proud to promote the good work achieved by "Reef Check". This international charity works with governments and non government organizations to preserve and rehabilitate coral reefs all over Indonesia. Whether its beach cleans ups, charity events or reef surveys, Reef check is making a difference. To get involved or find out more information simply click on www.reefcheck.org.

Mangrove Tour

Bali Hai’s optional Mangrove Tour educates tourists about the importance of mangroves in the eco-system as well as guiding the locals in preserving such precious environment. In addition, it brings much needed income to an area that was rarely visited by tourists until the start of this program.
